Grown Up Comfort Food?

February 4th, 2010 by Sheena

It must have something to do with my childhood, but I am constantly craving macaroni and cheese! Truly delicious… I decided to look up an interesting recipe for gourmet macaroni and cheese on my iPhone to impress friends of mine at a dinner party. Everyone likes comfort foods, so I decided to make it even more fun, and I texted everyone on my iPhone to bring a fancy version of their favorite comfort dish. I guess you could say that this idea was breaking out a little bit of the Top Chef in me because it sounds like one of their challenges.

I have to tell anyone out there that has not yet tried gourmet macaroni and cheese that it is absolutely addicting! There are a number of different ways to make it, but why not get even more fancy and use different cheeses that you may not have ever tried before? You can also use different types of macaroni pasta, like whole grain, spinach pasta, or even pasta that is gluten free. I ended up finding a wealth of recipes in an iPhone app, and I went for a richer taste in a mixture of Romano, Gorgonzola, and Mozzarella cheeses. Mmm…

Curl Up With a Book?

January 29th, 2010 by Landon

With the new iPad coming onto the market, it seems that Amazon and Apple could easily become enemies. Of course, Amazon already sells a device similar to read books with called the Kindle. This has been the quickest and hottest way for people to take advantage of reading e-books, especially since the screen of the iPhone is so small and difficult to use to read downloadable PDFs.

It seems that this new netbook is a larger version of the iPod touch, and it runs around $500. Apple itself is not a fan of netbooks, but this is yet another version of a device for personal use. It is not supposed to work as a replacement for the iPod or iPhone, but it is supposed to be a cross breed of a device similar to a laptop that has a large enough screen to enjoy books on. It seems to be directly related to the Kindle to be used for chilling at home, reading in bed, or reading on an airplane. If you are already a fan of your iPhone, then you may want to try this device, but make sure that you have some iPad repair site on hand to help you out if the big screen cracks!

Scary Accessories For Your Room

January 21st, 2010 by Landon

Even though I may not seem like the type, I like to do a little bit of casual shopping on my iPhone. Lately, one of my areas of interest has been in finding unique items to add to my home. One of the coolest that I have found so far in surfing for interesting items to buy on my iPhone is the bloody lamp. This is a distinctive design that looks like blood is spilling out of the lamp in the form of an overturned bucket. This is something that will definitely catch people off guard when they come to your home, and it will also work as a great conversation piece.

I don’t know why it intrigues me, but I am just the type of person that likes something a little different than the norm, and this is something that you cannot find at Target. It is a pretty expensive lamp because it is a new design from Japan, and it costs over $200. It has two different styles available, and it can be put on a tabletop, or even mounted on the wall. At the very least, check out this interesting piece as a gift for someone special in your life who will appreciate something one-of-a-kind!

Fun Body Tricks

January 13th, 2010 by Reyna

Your body is quite an interesting instrument, and I’m sure you know by now what kind of strange things that you can do to stop the hiccups. I decided to take things a step further and look up interesting body tricks on my iPhone that may actually surprise you.

First of all, if you are absolutely petrified of needles, try coughing when you are getting a shot. This is something that will cause a rise to the pressure in your chest that can inhibit pain. Next on the list, if you have a stuffed up nose, then you can easily relieve this pressure by thrusting your tongue toward the roof of your mouth, and then pressing one finger between your eyebrows. Alternate these motions, and it will cause the congestion to loosen in no time!

If you happen to be feeling dizzy from drinking too much, put your hand on a stable object. This will help you to balance out, and since your hand is full of nerves, it will dispel the dizziness more quickly. Lastly, if you are someone who gets a side stitch when you are running, then exhale when your left foot hits the ground, and it will relieve this issue right away! Tricky…

Is Midomi Better Than Pandora?

January 7th, 2010 by Landon

I have to admit that I am completely addicted to Pandora, which is why I was intrigued with the newer Midomi iPhone app I recently downloaded. This is a similar music app, but it has different features than Pandora. For instance, you may be wanting to enter an artist into Pandora, like a song that you heard on Grey’s Anatomy the night before. What are you going to do if you can’t think of who sang it, or what the song was called?

Midomi allows you to sing part of the song into your iPhone, and it will try to tell you what it is. You can also speak the name of the song title or artist to find out more about the artist to pinpoint what song you are looking for. You can also type in a song title or artist for a more accurate selection than speaking your search phrase. And the best part of all is that you can hold your iPhone directly at the TV when you’re watching Grey’s Anatomy so that this app can tell you exactly what song it is, and add it to your playlist. Technology at its best, and even better, it is free!

Target Goes Bulk

January 5th, 2010 by Sheena

If you are a normal grocery shopper at Super Target, then you may have employed the use of your iPhone from time to time. The iPhone is more than convenient when it comes to grocery shopping because you can accumulate your list over the week by typing it into your phone without having to get disorganized and lose a scrap sheet of paper.

As an update, Target is making some changes in the new year, starting with selling wholesale and bulk items, just like Costco. This is something that is going until February, and it is supposed to attract more customers who shop at bulk locations like Wal-Mart and Costco. This is not a permanent fixture for Target, but it is only a post holiday marketing ploy to get more people in the doors who are purchasing bulk from other warehouse locations. Depending on your grocery shopping needs, this could be good news or bad news. If you are someone who absolutely loves Cosco and wants to do all of your shopping in one place, then why not try it out? However, if you were trying to avoid the big wholesale atmosphere by shopping in a superstore like Super Target, then tough luck until the end of February.

Are You an Aspiring Doctor??

December 28th, 2009 by Sheena

You can practice your doctor skills by downloading the Amateur Surgeon iPhone app for around five dollars! This is something inspired by Adult Swim, and it stars a pizza delivery boy. He is into amateur surgery, and there are many different tools that you can use, like a stapler and pizza cutter. This is an app that is only available for users over 17 because of its content, but it is definitely a weird little app to add to your iPhone repertoire.

This is something that many users like because you can play a more bloody and strange version of Operation. If you are someone who enjoys Adult Swim regularly, then this may be right up your alley. This is something that you can use to improve your hand eye coordination and entertain yourself if you are waiting for the bus, the train, or even your doctor’s appointment. Many users that I know get so into it that they play it on a continuous basis so be warned that this app can be quite addicting! If you have always been meaning to get around to going to medical school, then this is your opportunity to practice your surgical skills for under five dollars.

Grand Theft Auto Chinatown Wars iPhone App For 2010

December 22nd, 2009 by Reyna

If you are a fan of iPhone apps, then you should be getting excited for 2010. One of the newer games available in 2010 as an iPhone app is GTA: Chinatown Wars. This Grand Theft Auto app is already a game on PlayStation and Nintendo DS. It is the 13th Grand Theft Auto Game, so if you are a fan with an iPhone, then this is probably something that you are anticipating.

Chinatown Wars looks different from all of the other games because it works with a fully rotatable camera to provide more insight into the action. In this game, the player has the potential to take out as many cop cars as they can to escape the police. Basically, if the player accumulates more stars, they will have to take out more cops on every level. This is just another fantastic game to have available with you anywhere you go on your iPhone, which is exactly why it is much anticipated for 2010. The iPhone provides handheld action on a number of popular games, which is something that you can take advantage of on your daily commute, between classes, or even when you have some downtime at work. Get ready for this game in 2010!

Can Too Much Facebook Cause Depression?

December 18th, 2009 by Sheena

I have to admit that I am one of the first people to constantly get on Facebook through my iPhone, and why wouldn’t I be? Pretty much all of my friends and family will update their Facebook profiles directly from their iPhones, especially since it is such a convenient way to stay connected and up to date. Still, one recent study is suggesting that adolescent girls may have depression caused by using Facebook too often.

There was a study done on 83 girls who were around the age of 13, and they found that the girls who spend more time on this social media site had higher levels of depression. The theory goes that all of this social media interaction, like texting and instant messaging, makes it easy for teens to have high anxiety and depression. I guess the moral of the story is to use Facebook in moderation, and don’t substitute it for real people in your life. Social media is a wonderful thing, and it provides the opportunity to connect with people all over the world. On the flipside, it also poses the risk of not truly connecting with the people that you see every day if you are using it too often.

Do You Play Poker On Your iPhone?

December 10th, 2009 by Natalie

casinoGambling itself can be quite addicting, so if you are someone who can’t control your gambling, then poker on the iPhone may be the exact choice for you! This will give you the opportunity to play as much poker as you want, but you don’t have to worry about losing all of your money. iPhone poker apps can be completely addicting, especially since it is always available at your fingertips. Have some downtime at work? Play some poker! Have some downtime before an appointment? Play some poker! Waiting to pick your kids up from school? Play some poker!

Interestingly enough, there are now some lawmakers in Texas trying to bring this same attitude to the great state by integrating Las Vegas style casinos. They want to do this to provide more money for the state of Texas, which is definitely what you will get from a casino establishment. It seems that all of the Texans that want to gamble are going out of state to do so, when all of that money could be benefiting Texas directly. There are gambling boats available over the border in Louisiana, and Vegas is always a plane ride away. Representatives feel that Texas would be the perfect place for Vegas style casinos since Texans are already interested in gaming.
